Abhishek Lodha’s Macrotech Developers and his younger brother Abhinandan Lodha’s House of Abhinandan Lodha (HoABL) have amicably resolved all outstanding disputes through mediation, both parties said in a joint statement on Monday.
The settlement, which has taken place under their parents’ guidance, involves four key points that have been agreed to by both parties. One, Macrotech Developers will have exclusive rights to use the brand names “Lodha” and “Lodha Group”, and Abhinandan will use “House of Abhinandan Lodha (HoABL)” brand name exclusively. Both sides will own their respective brand names as well. Two, “Lodha Group” and “HoABL” will have no connection with each other and both entities will communicate the same widely. Three, Abhinandan will have no rights or claims on Lodha Group or Macrotech Developers, or other businesses of Abhishek, and Abhishek will have no rights or claims on HoABL or other businesses of Abhinandan.
The settlement is effective immediately. The agreement between the brothers puts an end to the long-standing trademark row between their respective firms, which played out publicly since January this year.
Both Abhishek and Abhinandan expressed their gratitude to Justice R V Raveendran, a retired Supreme Court judge, who was appointed by the Bombay High Court to mediate the talks between the firms of Abhishek and Abhinandan.
“The (Lodha) family is grateful to Hon’ble Justice Arif Doctor for encouraging them to follow the process of mediation. They also extend their sincere appreciation to all family elders and well-wishers, who provided their counsel and support throughout the resolution process. No further statements will be made on the matter,” both the entities said in the joint statement.
Abhinandan started HoABL as his independent business in 2015, moving away from the Lodha Group, which was formalised through a family agreement two years later. However, the use of the Lodha trademark became a bone of contention between the brothers.
In January 2025, Macrotech Developers filed a lawsuit in the Bombay High Court against HoABL over the use of the “Lodha” name, seeking ₹5,000 crore in damages.
Macrotech accused HoABL of using the brand name “Lodha” and “Lodha Group” for marketing its new launches as well as of the same being used by its channel partners. The company had alleged that the indiscriminate usage of brand name “Lodha” and “Lodha Group” had resulted in a lot of confusion for existing buyers of HoABL.
The court, after hearing the argument, suggested that both parties resolve the matter through mediation.
Later that month, both parties submitted their willingness to pursue mediation. The court then appointed Justice Raveendran to mediate between the real estate tycoons.
However, on April 2, Macrotech accused certain entities of HoABL of using “purported” board resolutions of Macrotech with regard to the use of the “Lodha” trademark and filing the same with government authorities.
HoABL then denied the accusations and on April 3 filed a police complaint against unknown people to investigate the alleged offences. HoABL wrote a letter to the police on April 4, where it stated that there has been no instance of fraud or forgery committed by HoABL, and that the claims of boards of two of the group’s companies using fabricated (Macrotech) board resolutions was false and strongly denied.
As things stand today, all disputes between the two groups have been settled and legal cases withdrawn.
